The Cherry Creek Area
Cherry Creek is one of the City and County of Denver's official statistical neighborhoods. It runs from University Boulevard east to Colorado Boulevard, and from about East 6th Avenue south to the Cherry Creek waterway that gives the neighborhood its name. Our office sits just east of Colorado Boulevard, in the blocks of offices and homes that continue past the neighborhood's formal boundary.
Where Denver Cases Are Heard
Cherry Creek sits in the City and County of Denver, Colorado's Second Judicial District. Colorado has 23 judicial districts, and Denver's is the only one that is not a combined court. Denver has four constitutionally separate courts: County Court, District Court, Probate Court, and Juvenile Court.
District Court civil and domestic cases, County Court traffic and civil cases, and the Probate Court are at the City and County Building, 1437 Bannock Street, Denver, CO 80202. Criminal cases in both District and County Court, along with all Juvenile Court cases, are heard at the Lindsey-Flanigan Courthouse, 520 West Colfax Avenue, Denver, CO 80204. A Denver divorce or custody case is filed at the City and County Building, and a Denver criminal case moves through the Lindsey-Flanigan Courthouse.
Denver County Court is both a municipal and state court, one of the busiest courts in Colorado, processing on average 100,000 cases annually. It hears municipal criminal, traffic, and juvenile cases along with state misdemeanors, felony advisements, bond setting, preliminary hearings, protection orders, and state traffic violations. It is also the exception among Colorado county courts: the others are funded by the state, and its judges are selected under the Denver city charter.
What We Handle in Cherry Creek
Our Criminal Defense practice covers Denver cases from DUI and driving offenses through serious felonies. Our Family Law practice covers divorce, parenting time, child support, and protection orders for families in the Cherry Creek area and across Denver. Cases that start with a summons, an arrest, or papers served at home all raise the same first questions, and a first phone call answers most of them. Divorce work is billed hourly, and how your fee works is explained up front.
